Abstract

This article is devoted to the coordination of the subject and the predicate expressed  by collective nouns in English and Tajik. Collective nouns express the integration of similar objects or persons as an undivided whole. In Modern English the coordination between the subject and the predicate expressed by collective nouns is used in singular or plural forms. Connection of the predicate with the subject really exists. But it is realized not directly, but in an indirect way – through the subject. As for the Tajik  language, the  facts of using a verb-predicate in the singular form with more than one subjects testify to the disagreement between the subject and the predicate, but if the  verb-predicate is used in the plural form in such cases, agreement between two main sentence-members is obvious. It depends on the notions of singularity and plurality in  reference to nouns.
