The article dwells on a number of customs and rites of the millers of Northern Tajikistan in the period of the XIX-th - the beginning of the XX-thcenturies. During field explorations conducted in different areas of Sughd viloyat personally by the author the latter collected a lot of materials connected with millers` cult rituals. Proceding from these materials the author makes an endeavour to analyze the role and place of traditional customs and rites in every day life of the population inhabiting Northern Tajikistan.
The isssue concerned with the history of the studies in reference to certain customs, rites, cults and peculiar features of mill grinding production in Northern Tajikistan is touched upon for the first time. Chronological frames of the questions explored comprise the period referring to the end of the XIX-th century up to the present time.
