Abstract

The article analyzes the history of the study of one of the main sources on the history of the Kakand Khanate, the “History of Shahrukh” by Mullah Niyaz Muhammad Kukandi (19th century), also known as “Ibrat-ul-khavakin” (“Edification for Sovereigns”). It is noted that this historical chronicle provides detailed information about the conquest of Central Asia by Tsarist Russia, which is absent from other historical treatises. The article presents information about the study of the "History of Shahrukh" by pre-revolutionary Russian scientists, historians of the Soviet period and the era of independence. The history of the study of the work of Mullah Niyaz is divided into two periods: the first period begins with the discovery of the first copies of the work and continues until the 30s of the 20th century. This period is characterized by a relatively skeptical attitude towards the chronicle in question. In the second period of studying the "History of Shahrukh", radical changes occur in the attitude towards the book, especially in the assessment of its historical and scientific significance. It is emphasized that the book contains unique information about the areas of Central Asia where Tajiks lived, and about their role in the political and military life of the khanate.
