The article studies rabad establishment as a part of medieval city in Mavеrennahr and Khorasan, as a result of which the urban appearance of Central Asian cities changes and they pass to another stage of development. The author reviews the ways of rabads establishment like population growth, development of handicraft production, internal and external trade. These ways are described as the main reasons of rabad development. The data of written sources are compared with archaeological sources in the development of rabads. On the example of Bunjikat, the capital of Ustrushana, Samarkand and Bukhara and other cities which flourished in the X-XI century, archeological data shows that the city was divided into three-parts. The paper also describes the role of Arab colonization in the establishment of rabads and cities of Mavеrennahr and Khorasan, as well as their transformation into centers of crafts and trade. Gradually, it was the rabads that became the most lively and populated part of the city.
