The article examines the problem of adoption, as well as the essence and importance of observing the norms of journalistic professional ethics in a democratic society. It is emphasized that in order to better study and determine the essence of compliance with the norms of professional ethics as a necessary condition for printed periodicals of a democratic society, they were compared with the ethical codes of printed periodicals of the socialist society of the Soviet Union era. It was suggested that a characteristic feature of professional journalistic ethics of the Soviet period in the history of Tajik society was the cultural and social component, which was based on the ethics of socialist society. It is concluded that the need to comply with ethical standards in a democratic society has become relevant due to the fact that freedom of speech and the press is inherent in this society, its essential element and provides journalists and the media with a wide field of activity.
