The author undertakes an endeavor of etymological analysis in regard to zoonyms designating domestic animals for a description of characters’ spiritual state and the peculiarities of the places where the action unfolds in Ghyandjevi’s “Hamsa”. Special attention is paid to the etymology of primordially Tajik zoonyms. E.g.: dad (wild animals); dom (herbivorous animals); меш (sheep); барра (lamb); буз (goat) and etc. For etymology excursions authoritative mediaeval interpreting dictionaries are used on a par with special literature; among them we find “Burkhoni Kote” (theXVII-th c.) and “Ghiyas-ul-Lugat” (the XIX-th c.) The author touches also upon the etymology of borrowed Arabian zoonyms: khayvon (animal), vukhas (wild animal), nokka (female camel).
