FROM THE HISTORY OF INTERNAL PILGRIMAGE AND REVERENCE OF SACRED PLACES BY THE TAJIKS OF MIDDLE ASIA

Abstract

The article dwells on the order of organization of pilgrimage and worship to sacred places by the Tajiks of Middle Asia. Proceeding from the data of observations, field ethnographic explorations and scholars’ works referring to the realm in question, the author discloses such issues as practical effectuation of pilgrimage and worship towards sacred places, ways of visits to shrines, rituals and rites of internal pilgrimage. It is underscored that faith and worship to sacred places are based on spiritual existence of the latters and their sanctity. The information about the organization of mass visits to mazars is presented.
