The article analyzes the distinctive features of gerund, and verbal noun of the English language and their equivalents in the Tajik language. Despite the fact that,gerund and verbal noun of the English language are made of infinitive by adding suffix -ing they totally differ from each other. Verbalnoun of the English language can be used with definite or indefinite article, it has plural form, but gerund doesn’t have such features. Gerund has perfect and non-perfect, active and passive forms, but verbal noun doesn’t have such features and it is always used in non-perfect, active form. Gerund can have a direct object but verbal noun only through the preposition of receives a prepositional object. Gerund is modified by preposition or adverb, but verbal noun is modified by adjective.In the article all these distinctive points of gerund and verbal noun of the English language were separately analyzed, through examples, and their Tajik equivalents. Analyses show that in many cases gerund and verbal noun of the English language coincide with the infinitive, noun, compound noun and compound verb of the Tajik language.
