The article presents the research features and semantic nuances of ethnographisms in contemporary Tajik prose works, using the work of Sorbon as an example. It is emphasized that this problem has not received due attention in modern Tajik linguistics. It is noted that ethnographisms in linguistics are divided into two groups: a) words common to all native speakers of a language; b) words common in certain geographic regions and used in communication by a relatively limited number of the population. It is emphasized that the ethnographisms in Sorbonne’s works belong to the second group. Ethnographic vocabulary was analyzed according to classification into three groups: 1) words naming household items; 2) words naming clothing and footwear; 3) words conveying family relationships. A comparative analysis of ethnographisms from Sorbonne’s works with similar vocabulary from other dialects of the Tajik language was conducted.
