The article dwells on the principles and methods of literary criticism in the treatise “Ibrat-ul-gofilin”. It is marked that the latter considers critical devices and remarks belonging to Mirzo Tohir Makin, one of the renowned poets-representatives of Indian style who subjected to open criticism and reluctance the creation of the outstanding men-of-letters who confessed Indian style: Fayzi, Yani, Nosirali, Bedil. Mirzo Tohir Makin, one of Mukhammad Rafe Savdo’s contemporaries, as an editor of Ashraf Alihon’s untitled tezkire, when dealing with the latter he rejects some beyts of well-known poets or emends respective correction into them. Attention is paid to critical ideas expressed by Mukhammad Rafe Savdo; in particulal, such issues being touched upon as his attitude towards the poetry of both preceding and contemporary men-of-letters, analysis of the pieces of literary criticism, edition of Mirzo Tohir Makin’s verses and others. It is underscored that rejection and negation of the works of such famous poets as Mavlon Djalaluddin Rumi, Saadi Sherozi, Amir Husrav Dehlavi, Abdurakhmon Djami are not always well-grounded and they lack argumentation. Moreover, the corrections in questions don’t elevate the poems finesse only, but, on the contrary, they frustrate the motives and contents of the analyzed poetical productions either. The conclusion is made that notwithstanding everything told the treatise “Ibrat-ul-gofilin” by Mukhammad Rafe Savdo played a conciderable role in the studies of the issues of literary criticism in reference to the literature of India written in Persian and it is regarded as the most important source for its exploration.
