The article analyzes one of the magnificent examples of Persian-Tajik moralizing prose - the book “Marzban-name”, the original of which was created in the 9th century in the Tabari dialect by the successor of the Bavandid dynasty, Marzban ibn Sharvin. In the 12th century, almost simultaneously, two independent adaptations of the work appeared: 1) “Ravzat-ul-ukul” (“Gardens of Wit”), written by the Roman-Seljuk vizier Muhammad ibn Ghazi from Malatya; 2) “Marzban-name” (“Book of Marzbon”) by Saduddin Varovini, composed at the request of the vizier of the Atabeks of Azerbaijan Abulkasym Rabibuddin Harun ibn Ali and thereby preserved for future generations. It is emphasized that both works are written in the style of “a story within a story” and are an imitation of “Kalila and Dimna”. Descriptions of book manuscripts stored in different libraries around the world are presented. Information is provided on the translation of “Marzban-name” into Turkish and Arabic. It is noted that, in addition to literary significance, the work has great historical value.
