Abstract

ThearticleprovidesacomparativeanalysisofthestructuralcompositionverbphrasesinEnglishandTajiklanguages. It is emphasized that until now the structural composition of verb phrases in these languages has not been considered separately. It is mentioned that the structure of the discussed phrases in the English and Tajik languages differs from one another, since due to the general typological feature of the position of the word in a verb phrase, they belong to different groups of languages: the Tajik language gravitates towards left subordination, and the English language - towards right subordination. As a result of the analysis of factual material, it was concluded that the Tajik infinitive has more nominal characteristics than English. If in English the characteristic of the infinitive is manifested in its syntactic function, then in the Tajik language such a characteristic is observed not only in the syntactic function of the infinitive, but also in the manifestation of the syntactic connection of the infinitive with other parts of speech. That is, the Tajik infinitive, like a noun, takes the suffix “-i” and exhibits some other properties of the noun. Prepositions also play an important role in the formation of verb phrases and become one of the means of organizing these phrases.
