The article provides a comparative analysis of Russian translations of Firdawsi’s Shah-name, presented by C. B. Banu-Lahuti and Mikhail Lozinsky. Using the example of four stanzas from the poem “Rustam and Suhrab” (“Rustam defeats Suhrab”), based on the developed criteria for assessing the quality of translations and using the method of comparative analysis, conclusions are presented regarding the aesthetic equivalence of translations to the original. In this case, the observance of equilinearity, equirhythm, cadence, the contiguity of rhyme and its varieties, the specificity of euphony, the features of lexical correspondences or the absence thereof, the specificity of the translation of lexical and syntactic style-forming means are taken into account (tropes, figures, homogeneous parts of a sentence), various types of transformations, achieving imagery, emotional and aesthetic effect, etc. For each stanza, specific considerations are expressed, and common features of the translations and the original are identified, as well as their differences according to certain parameters of the specified criteria. The theoretical propositions expressed are supported by specific examples from the texts. When making comparisons, the author draws extensively not only on the analyzed lines but also on reference materials, citing works on the topic of the study.
