Abstract

This article examines the classification of means of expressing the meaning of "similarity" in English and their equivalents in Tajik. In English, one means of conveying the meaning of "similarity" is through adjective suffixes. The results of the study show that in the word-formation system of English adjectives, 11 suffixes are used to express the meaning “similar”, and their equivalents in the Tajik language are mainly the suffixes -оna (-gona, -yona), -i. It is noted that suffixes can be classified according to certain semantic features. A classification of suffixes expressing the concept of “similar” is presented: its meaning by form, by feature or property, by color, by appearance, character or manner, behavior, etc.
