Abstract

This article examines Aburaykhon Beruni's accounts of the holiday of Navruz. The aim of this work is to identify the specific features of Beruni's accounts and determine their significance for the study of various issues related to Navruz. Based on a historical and comparative analysis, Beruni's messages are examined about the reason for his addressing this topic, the etymology of the name, the founder and time of its occurrence, the reasons and traditions, as well as the rituals and customs associated with the celebration of Navruz. It is concluded that the significance of Beruni's information about Navruz lies not only in its diversity and breadth of themes, such as the numerous legends about King Jamshid, the emergence of the "aspido navisht" tradition, the merging of Navruz and Great Navruz, calendar reforms of the Abbasid caliphs al-Mutawakkil and al-Mu'tazid, as well as the Khorezmshah Abusaid Ahmad ibn Muhammad, associated with the movement of Navruz from the day of the vernal equinox to the day of the summer solstice, but also in the fact that they contain unique information, often unavailable in other sources, about the spiritual culture of the ancestors of the Tajik people.
