Abstract
The article presents a comprehensive analysis of translation
transformations in Oleg Erberg's translation of Sadriddin Aini's
novel "Dokhunda" from Tajik into Russian, demonstrating the
strategy for conveying national and cultural characteristics,
stylistic nuances, and the author's intention in literary translation.
Through a comparative analysis of the original and the translation,
the problem of preserving national character in translation is
examined. Specific examples are used to demonstrate how lexical
transformations (specification, generalization, modulation) help
adapt the text for a Russian-speaking reader while maintaining
ethnographic accuracy. The analysis reveals key translation
challenges: the need to balance appropriateness and
adaptability, compensating for the sound effects in proverbs, and
conveying the emotional intensity of dialogue. The study
confirms that successful translation of nationally charged texts
requires not only linguistic competence but also a deep
understanding of the cultural context. The practical significance
of this work lies in the development of recommendations for
translators: the use of explanatory footnotes for realia, the
search for alliterative equivalents for folkloric elements, and
the consideration of socio-historical subtext. The results of the
analysis and practical recommendations can be applied in the
translation of fiction, as well as in teaching.
